Writing Idea Page: Collage

This is a great project for all ages but especially for younger age students. The Writing Idea page offers children the opportunity to create their own collage to assist them during the day, as needed, when writing or inspiration is needed.

For plurilingual students this can be especially beneficial, creating a space for them to share images, text, stickers, and important details about themselves and what inspires them. The text can be in any language and can allow the child freedom to express themselves.

    • Letter Size Paper

    • Magazine Clippings

    • Pictures

    • Text

    • Drawings

    • Stickers

    • Glue

    • Scissors

  • Cut out all images, text, etc. Glue onto a letter size paper, overlapping and creating layers. There is no right or wrong way to make a collage.

    • Inspiration Ideas

    • What do you like to do?

    • Family

    • What do you want to be when you grow up?

    • What are you good at?

    • Friends

    • Places that are special to you

    • Pets

  • Collage allows for students to share their ideas and what is important to them. Teachers can make one as well, to share their ideas and more about their lives with others.

For younger students, this practice also helps them with fine motor skills like cutting, pasting and drawing.

    • Shared by students in front of whole class.

    • Shared in small groups.

    • Teacher shares to class

    • Kept in desk for writing inspiration when journaling
